Your job

Turn complex process requirements into industrial plants that work in the real world.

As Lead Plant Engineer, you will take a leading role in translating process requirements into practical, safe and well-integrated plant designs. From the first process flow schemes to equipment layouts, piping concepts and multidisciplinary design decisions, you help shape how complex industrial installations come together.

You will work at the heart of the engineering process, connecting process, mechanical, piping, structural and electrical engineering. Your challenge is not just to make each individual system work, but to ensure that the complete plant works as one integrated solution.

This is a role for an experienced engineer who enjoys combining technical depth with multidisciplinary coordination and who can see both the details and the bigger picture.

What you'll do

As Lead Plant Engineer, you will take ownership of the overall plant design and multidisciplinary integration during conceptual and basic engineering.

You will:

  • Translate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and process requirements into practical plant configurations and equipment arrangements;
  • Develop and review plant layouts, equipment positioning and maintainability concepts;
  • Contribute to the development and review of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs);
  • Develop piping routing concepts and coordinate interfaces between process, piping and mechanical systems;
  • Coordinate electrical routing requirements with Electrical Engineers;
  • Define spatial requirements, equipment loads and supporting structures in cooperation with Structural Engineers;
  • Prepare and review design philosophies, equipment specifications, layout drawings and interface documentation;
  • Lead the integration between process, mechanical, piping, structural and electrical disciplines;
  • Take part in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews and multidisciplinary workshops;
  • Contribute to FAT, SAT, commissioning and technical validation activities where required;
  • Coordinate technical work packages with international stakeholders and engineering partners;
  • Identify opportunities to improve and innovate the way industrial plants are designed and engineered.

What we're looking for

You are an experienced engineer who understands how an industrial process translates into a physical, buildable and maintainable installation. You are comfortable working across different engineering disciplines and know how to bring multiple technical interfaces together.

Ideally, you bring:

  • A BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline;
  • Proven experience in industrial plant engineering, plant design, process installations or complex industrial projects;
  • A strong understanding of the relationship between PFDs, P&IDs and physical plant layouts;
  • Hands-on experience with equipment arrangement, plant layouts and piping routing;
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering interfaces;
  • A practical understanding of structural engineering concepts and supporting steel structures;
  • Experience within industries such as mining, minerals processing, chemical, petrochemical, energy, offshore or industrial manufacturing;
  • Experience with 3D plant design environments such as AVEVA E3D, PDMS, Plant 3D or comparable software;
  • Familiarity with relevant piping and industrial installation codes and standards;
  • Experience with greenfield and/or brownfield projects;
  • The ability to work effectively with international engineering teams and stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills in English. Dutch is an advantage;
  • A base in the Netherlands or a valid EU work permit.

You do not need to tick every box. If you have strong industrial plant design experience and recognize yourself in the technical scope of this role, we would be interested to hear from you.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to take a central technical role in complex industrial engineering projects where your decisions have a direct impact on the final design.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on challenging and innovative industrial projects;
  • Influence plant designs from the early engineering stages through to technical realization;
  • Work across multiple engineering disciplines and develop a broad technical perspective;
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers and international project partners;
  • Take real technical ownership while continuing to develop your expertise;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in industrial plant engineering.

What we offer:

  • Gross monthly salary between €4500 and €6600 plus 8% holiday allowance depending on relevant working experience
  • Plenty of time off: 40 vacation days for a full-time position, with the option to buy or sell additional leave.
  • A profit-sharing scheme that lets you share in Royal IHC’s success.
  • Flexible working: A home office allowance of €2,45 per day + a one-time payment of €750 to set up your workspace.
  • Travel allowance of €0.21 per kilometer for the days you commute to the office.
  • A solid pension plan through PME.
  • Room to grow: Numerous internal career opportunities and a training budget + access to our IHC Academy to support your development.
  • Health and energy: Unlimited access to our in-house gym (in exchange for the sustainable employability day).
  • Royal IHC takes care of things you’d rather not worry about, but that are still important—such as disability insurance, partner pension, and the option to have additional healthcare costs reimbursed through our Social Fund.

Ready to turn complex engineering requirements into plant designs that work in practice? We would like to hear from you.
