About the job: 

We are looking for a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer (Discipline Lead Engineer) to be based in our Corpus Christi, Texas office, supporting major LNG, Oil & Gas, midstream, petrochemical, and other heavy industrial projects. 

You will provide technical leadership and project-level direction for all civil and structural engineering activities within assigned projects. You will be responsible for coordinating within the civil/structural group to ensure that engineering work is executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client requirements, applicable codes and standards, and Kent company procedures. You will provide direction to project engineers and designers and coordinate closely with project management, other disciplines, clients, engineering contractors, vendors, and construction teams. 

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the engineering, design and execution of civil/structural systems for major industrial facilities, strong engineering judgment, demonstrated leadership of project teams, and the ability to resolve complex technical and project issues. This position requires a highly experienced engineer who can balance technical excellence, project execution, constructability, cost, schedule, quality, and client requirements while providing effective team leadership. 

Relocation to Corpus Christi, TX is required for this position with 3-4 days working on-site at our Corpus Christi office on weekly basis is required.

Skills and Responsibilities:  

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Principal Civil Structural Engineer and Discipline Lead Engineer for Oil & Gas, petrochemical, LNG, and other industrial projects.
  • Provide overall project level technical leadership, oversight, and direction for the civil/structural project team.
  • Establish engineering execution strategy, priorities, and deliverable requirements for the civil/structural scope in project.
  • Define, develop, and review the civil structural scope of work, engineering estimates, schedules, and resource needs.
  • Prepare, review, check, and approve engineering calculations, design documents, drawings, specifications, and technical reports as required. 
  • Serve as the engineer on record and seal civil structural design documents to be issued for construction.
  • Ensure that engineering and design comply with project requirements, applicable codes, client specifications, industry standards and Kent procedures.
  • Serve as the civil structural discipline interface with other engineering disciplines such as process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, architectural. Work closely with other Discipline Leads and Project Management to identify and resolve interdisciplinary design issues and interface requirements.
  • Serve as a technical interface with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead or participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, model reviews, value engineering reviews, and other technical review activities.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including resolution for RFIs, field engineering issues, design changes, and non-conformances. 
  • Prepare design changes and evaluate their potential impacts on safety, quality, cost, schedule, and constructability.
  • Ensure effective and efficient engineering methods, design practices, and engineering tools are used throughout project execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering quality, reduce project cost, improve constructability, and facilitate long-term facility operation and maintenance.
  • Promote a strong culture of engineering quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement in project.
  • Support project management in monitoring discipline budget, staffing, schedule, and overall project performance.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are performed with appropriate consideration of safety, quality, schedule, cost, constructability, and operability.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:   

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: 

  • BSCE degree in civil structural engineering is required, MSCE preferred, minimum 12 years of hands on civil structural experience required in petrochemical, oil and gas or other heavy industries with a minimum of 5 years as a Senior Civil Structural Engineer. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Lead Role in medium or large-size projects is required.
  • P.E. license (preferable in the State of Texas) is required or able to obtain by comity within six months after joining Kent.
  • Established NCEES record is preferred but not required.
  • In depth knowledge of civil structural computer applications and finite element analysis is desirable.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into daily work processes
  • Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
  • Experience with design and/or construction of plants desirable.
  • In depth knowledge of civil structural standards, design codes and practices.
  • Familiar with PIP Standards is required.
  • Familiar with latest of IBC, ACI, AISC, API, ASCE codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficiency with Staad Pro, Staad Foundation, Mat 3D, Foundation 3D, RISA 3D suite.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modelling tools.
 

Communication:

  • Full fluency in English is required and second language desired but not required.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills required.
