A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy. With operations in every corner of the world, our work goes to the cutting-edge of digital transformation and technology. From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into. And that’s where you come in.

Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated HSE Advisor who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.

Based at our Belmont facility, this is an excellent opportunity for an early-career HSE professional or recent HSE graduate who wants to develop practical experience across office, workshop, warehouse, and laboratory environments.

Working closely with the Area HSE Manager and wider HSE team, you’ll gain broad exposure to operational safety, risk management, inductions, inspections, wellbeing, injury management and continuous improvement. You’ll also take an active role in coordinating our BeWell program across Western Australia, helping promote a positive approach to health, safety and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day HSE support across our Belmont office, workshop, warehouse, and laboratory environments.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and help identify and close out hazards and improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver HSE inductions for employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Assist with risk assessments, SWMS, HSE procedures and site documentation.
  • Support incident, hazard, near-miss and close-call reporting and follow-up actions.
  • Assist with HSE performance reviews, observations and internal audits.
  • Support emergency preparedness and workplace drills.
  • Coordinate HSE training records, communications, toolbox talks and awareness activities.
  • Support environmental controls including waste and chemical management.
  • Coordinate the BeWell employee wellbeing program across WA.
  • Support injury management, suitable duties and return-to-work activities.
  • Assist with HSE campaigns, lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Periodically visit operational and project sites to support HSE activities.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience:

We’re looking for someone who is curious, proactive and keen to build a career in HSE. You may already have some experience in an HSE administration, junior safety, wellbeing or operational support role, or you may be a recent graduate looking for the opportunity to put your qualifications into practice.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Health, Safety & Environment, WHS/OHS or a related discipline.
  • A sound understanding of workplace health and safety and basic risk management principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with employees and managers at different levels.
  • Good Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute as part of the HSE team.
  • A genuine desire to learn, develop and continually improve.
  • Knowledge of Western Australian WHS requirements would be advantageous.
  • Experience or training in injury management and return to work would be highly regarded.
