Make your mark while you grow your career! As member of the Corporate Environment team, you will support the delivery and the effective planning of Canadian Natural’s liability closure programs, including well abandonments, reclamation and remediation activities. 

Working closely with the Area Asset teams and the Asset Retirement team, the Corporate Environment team focuses on informing high-level closure planning that meets regulatory objectives.  You will work together with provincial and federal government staff and regulators to inform and ensure an effective and efficient regulatory framework that supports shared objectives of quality and cost-effective closure of inactive sites.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and senior leadership to develop advocacy positions, provide strategic guidance, and respond to information requests related to liability reduction commitments, regulatory requirements, and land stewardship objectives
  • Represent Canadian Natural on industry and multi-stakeholder committees, advocating on matters related to abandonment, decommissioning, reclamation, liability reduction, and species-at-risk initiatives
  • Model and evaluate liability management scenarios using existing databases, focusing on liability reduction through abandonment, decommissioning, reclamation, and operational footprint reduction initiatives
  • Assess the impacts of regulatory requirements and land use plans and develop liability reduction strategies to support closure targets and ensure compliance across Canadian Natural’s operations
  • Communicate liability management requirements across internal teams, ensuring alignment, accountability, and effective tracking of regulatory commitments and performance metrics 

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in the oil and gas industry, supported by a degree or diploma in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline 
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal regulations related to liability management, with experience in oil, natural gas, and oil sands operations considered an asset
  • Proven ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization and external industry groups
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to assess complex issues, model and interpret data, and support strategic decision-making. 
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS), database management, and other data management tools and methodologies is considered a strong asset
