Job Summary:

Responsible for managing and operating a drilling unit (Rig). Oversee all aspects of the rig’s activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable drilling operations. This includes planning work schedules, coordinating the efforts of subcontractors and service companies, provides leadership to offshore personnel, ensures adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements, and delivers operational performance in line with client contracts and business objectives, and monitors operational costs to enhance overall efficiency within budgetary constraints. Acts as the key focal point between the rig and the client, ensuring clear communication and alignment on operational activities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Operational Excellence:

  • Timely overviews of rig daily activities to ensure OIM is Managing rig operations in alignment with company objectives, regulatory stated in the operations manual and client requirements within contractual boundaries / obligations, and industry standards.
  • Ensure that the “4S”, “Zero Tolerance Policy” and “5 to Survive” elements are comprehended and fully implemented by operations team.
  • Oversees maintenance, costs, and personnel to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Conducts thorough risk assessments initiated from the rig and audit implementation of safety measures to maintain safe and incident-free operations.
  • Review well programs and conduct the necessary meetings onboard and in town with clients to ensure full understanding of technical aspects and rig equipment suitability to perform drilling / workover activities.
  • Collaborates with Marine department and coordinates rig moves activities, logistics, and communication to ensure adherence to regulations, obtaining necessary permits smooth transitions, and minimizing disruptions.
  • Participates in regular monthly rig visits and conducts bi-annual audits to evaluate the efficiency of drilling operations, and equipment performance, and to identify areas of improvement before they escalate.
  • Evaluates the rig move's success and provides feedback for process improvement.

Asset Management:

  • Verifies with the senior crew the availability of the optimum quantity of rig supplies, parts, materials, fuel, lubricants, and potable water for the drilling program are onboard.
  • Guides when to cease\resume operations, as per company procedures in cooperation with the OIM.
  • Ensures company equipment is utilized fairly and not exceeding the OEM recommended operating parameters.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance program is implemented and plan with OIM to eliminate overrunning equipment.
  • Prepares for unit & equipment long cycle recertifications & SPS activities in coordination with projects department. Initiates annual CAPEX list and coordinate with Assets & Maintenance department for required verifications and approvals.
  • Plans and approvals for rig activities such as equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance program, repairs, daily
    maintenance of drilling fluids, rigging up or down, etc.
  • Plans with OIM the proper rescheduling of PMS tasks to be performed offline within operational windows to minimize NPT.
  • Maintains adequate levels of consumables on the rig to facilitate proper well-control procedures during unforeseen events.
  • Anticipates and resolves operational, equipment, and maintenance issues to minimize rig exposures to downtime or unplanned events.

Rig Financial Management:

  • Participates and collaborates with department heads and the Offshore Operations Manager to develop the rig(s) budget.
  • Develops and administers annual operations budgets, monitoring and analyzing costs and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
  • Keeps a close watch on operational costs, including maintenance, supplies, and personnel expenses.
  • Ensures efficient resource allocation and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Reviewing rig orders to ensure no overordering, idle orders, or over stocking.
  • Review cycle W/H inventory and identify slow moving items and dead items, coordinate with SC to decrease or remove them from rig stock to maintain reasonable stock levels.
  • Identify critical shut down items and ensure availability of these items onboard.
  • Ensuring daily reports are reflective of the actual operations performed and subsequently reflected in the monthly billing sheet to preserve company rights, make sure take-off sheets are submitted timely at the end of each month.
  • Ensure all non-contractual client requirements are addressed according to third party services back charge clause in the contract.
  • Discussing and clearing disputes with clients to ensure invoices are submitted and collected with no delays.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensures that all drilling activities are conducted in accordance with regulatory, corporate as tabulated in the management system, company directives, and local government certification requirements.
  • Ensures that all legal and regulatory documents, certificates, inspections, and regulatory tasks are kept up-to-date and valid, taking necessary actions to achieve timely compliance.
  • Ensures that safety protocols are always adhered to onboard, enforcing established safe working practices within each supervisor's area of responsibility.
  • Conducts regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures, and applicable standards.
  • Manages onsite emergencies through the emergency team leaders, coordinating with emergency services and clients as necessary.
  • Responsible for accident investigations to be done accurately and reported timely.
  • Maintains adequate levels of consumables for well-control procedures.
  • Conducts safety inspections and implement corrective actions to prevent incidents.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Ensures full compliance with flag state requirements/training and verifies that all personnel hold the necessary qualifications and training mandated by the flag authority, and that documentation is maintained accurately and up to date.

 Client Management:

  • Liaises with clients regarding safety and operational items, including but not limited to pre-planning and adherence to customer industry standards.
  • Coordinate with the commercial function with respect to contractual requirements and ensure execution compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring the unit is always compliant with contract and client requirements and addressing client concerns promptly.
  • Communicate regularly with the client representative. Also ensuring that OIM maintains the same on site and ensures that each party’s priorities and plans are clearly communicated and understood to continually promote good relations with the client.
  • Represents the Company professionally, upholding the confidentiality of the Company and client business.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other department heads, supervisors, operator's representatives, subcontractors, and all personnel on the rig.

Safety Management:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to ensure the safety of all onsite personnel with the goal of an incident-free operation.
  • Ensure that preplans operational needs, organizes equipment and supplies, conducts critical equipment/system testing, and performs safety inspections to ensure readiness for operations.
  • Ensure that the necessary resources are in place to enable the company to achieve safe, effective, and efficient operation offshore.
  • Ensures periodic review of safety cases for offshore installations is performed and ensures that appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure that safety meetings are conducted in accordance with established safety manuals.
  • Reviews the client's drilling program, ensuring alignment with ADES well control and HSE policies.

 Emergency Management:

  • Maintains control of onsite emergencies through the rig's emergency team leaders.
  • Initiate necessary measures to safeguard the security of personnel, the drilling unit, and the client's well.
  • Ensures that Well Control and general safety drills are held and recorded in accordance with Company requirements.

People Management and Development:

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and training to rig crew members to ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures and ensures rig crew are in full compliance with the Company training matrix.
  • Develops and implements performance management systems to foster employee development and succession planning.
  • Promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment where all employees feel valued and respected.
  • Supports, promotes, and actively participates in ADES’s Competency Assurance Program for their team.
  • Evaluates the performance of their team on a constant and fair feedback basis, identify areas for improvement, and drives the ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.
  • Oversees the catering staff, ensuring proper hygiene is practiced with respect to the quality, storage and preparation of food, cleanliness of the kitchen and accommodation, clinic upkeep and medical care, suitable drinking water including suitable laundry facilities.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering) or a related field.
  • At least 10 to 12 years of proven experience in drilling and workover operations with renowned drilling contractors.
  • Minimum previous experience of Two (2) years as a Rig Manager.
  • Proven experience in offshore drilling project management.
