You will build transient models for grid-connected converters and plants, including renewable energy systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), HVDC, FACTS, and microgrids. Imagine defining and developing controller concepts that enhance the performance of converter-based assets, from inner controls to plant-level energy management. You will investigate the interactions among various systems, ensuring robust performance during normal operations and faults. Your expertise will drive innovation as you apply data analytics and AI/ML methods for predictive maintenance and load forecasting, all while mentoring the next generation of engineers in this critical field. **How You’ll Make an Impact** - Develop and validate transient models for converter-based grid assets, including renewables, BESS, HVDC, FACTS, industrial loads, data centers, and microgrids - Design, tune, and assess control strategies from converter inner controls to plant-level energy management and supervisory functions - Implement grid-following and grid-forming controls, including synchronization, voltage/frequency support, and fault ride-through capabilities - Analyze interactions between converter controls, plant controllers, and protection systems to optimize system performance and reliability - Perform dynamic, transient, and small-signal studies to evaluate system behavior and support controller tuning in weak and low-inertia grids - Apply advanced analytics and AI/ML techniques for forecasting, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, while providing technical leadership and mentoring **What You Bring** - Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Power Systems, Control Engineering, or a related field with a focus on power systems and controls - Extensive professional experience in power-system modeling and studies, including development and validation of RMS and EMT models - Strong understanding of power-system dynamics, stability, fault response, and control interactions - Practical expertise in converter-based technologies and control architectures, including grid-following and grid-forming controls - Proficiency with industry-standard simulation tools (e.g., PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink) and programming in Python, MATLAB, or similar environments - Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience in data analytics/AI/ML considered an advantage; fluent English required, German a plus **About the Team** In our Business Functions we enable our organization to reach their targets by providing best-in class services and solutions in the areas of IT, HR, Finance, Real Estate, Strategy & Technology and more. **Who is Siemens Energy?** At Siemens Energy, we are more than just an energy technology company.
